How To Heal Core Wounds With Reiki

Healing core wounds is often referred to as “shadow work.” A core wound is a deep emotional wound, most often formed from suppressed pain and emotions internalized from a significant event, usually in childhood. Core wounds are often identified during the times we are triggered.

Core wounds alter the way we view ourselves, others, and the world around us and can create energetic blocks and dense energies in our system that lead to illness and disease. They also hinder us from living full, loving and joyful lives.

From a Reiki practitioner perspective, these “blocks” can also limit the amount of Reiki energy we can channel as well as the amount of Light we are able to integrate into the body. By healing core wounds, we allow for more Light, Love and Joy in all aspects of our lives.  Reiki can be very effective in healing the oppressed emotions and trauma associated with core wounds.

If you are uncertain of what your core wounds are, look for the trigger(s) that occur frequently. In the moments you are feeling triggered ask yourself, “what triggered me?”:

  • I felt powerless

  • I felt judged

  • I felt unheard.

  • I felt unsafe.

  • I felt excluded.

  • I felt blamed.

  • I felt disrespected.

  • I felt a lack of attention.

  • I felt lonely.

  • I felt like I couldn’t be honest.

  • I felt uncared for.

  • I felt like the bad guy.

  • I felt forgotten.

  • I felt unloved.

  • I felt manipulated.

  • I felt frustrated.

  • I felt trapped.

  • I felt disconnected.

  • I felt controlled.

  • I felt like I couldn’t speak up.

Once you have identified your frequent triggers/core wounds follow the step by step process below and feel free to alter it as you are guided by Reiki.

1. Sit comfortably, hands in Gassho (prayer position at heart chakra,) close eyes, and take a few cleansing breaths.

2. Invite the healing light of Reiki to flow through every cell of your body, your auric field, and any and all aspects of you across time and space.

3. If you have them, activate the Holy Fire, HSZSN, Iava, Harth, and Halu symbols.

4. Ask any spirit guides, illumined beings, and angels to assist in the healing process.

5. Identify the core wound you would like to heal and ask Reiki to show you where it originated. Many core wounds occur in childhood but can happen at any time in one’s life. If you can’t identify where it originated, trust Reiki will know where to go.

6. Send Reiki to when the core wound occurred and ask Reiki to heal you. Send the love and support you wished you had received at the time. Send healing to all those involved if it honors their free will to do so, and ask Reiki to help you forgive any trespasses.

7. When you feel the process is complete, place hands in Gassho and give thanks for the healing.

Feel free to repeat this process as often as you need and feel guided to do so.
